The millenarian history of the city can be discovered in the heart of the historical center of the city founded by Greeks.
Greeks, coming from the Eubea island, colonized the island of Pithecusa before (Ischia - Casamicciola) in the XVIII century B. C., successively went to Cuma, then towards the VII century they founded Parthenope, on the little island of Megaride (Castel dell’Ovo) currently named Pizzofalcone. The choice of the initial site revealed right, allowing a natural defence against eventual enemy attacks, thanks to its strategic position on the sea and a valley behind that delimited the almost inaccessible area, that could be reached from the side of Gennaro Serra road.
The development of the city was essentially linked to the sea, and the impossibility to deploy the area behind the city caused the leaving of the zone and the successive birth of Neapolis, in the V century B. C.
The city through the several centuries can yet be distinguished: the Greek -roman city, the medieval one, the Sveva, Angioina, and then Aragonese cities; at last the one of XIX and the 20th century that reaches the borders of the Flegrei Fields.
Naples was conquered by Odoacer, then from the Goths, Belisarius, Tutuila; it was transformed in byzantine, it resisted to the independent Longobardi people and became a dukedom until the XI century. From the Norman king Federico II it passed to the Svevi, knowing a period of strong development. After the Svevi it passed to the Angioini until the advent of Alfonso of Aragon in 1442. It became a kingdom with Consalvo de Cordoba on the 14th of May of 1503, until the entrance of Carlo di Borbone (1734). Naples is a treasure to be discovered and each time it is able to surprise also who lives there from years.
